Redwell - Start to Finish

With this post I'm throwing together all the phone photo's and extra's so I can look back and have a clear view how far the project had come from the beginning, capturing all the different processes the group and I had to go through to get to a final outcome.

To start off with you can't really call yourself a student if you don't like drinking, getting a brief which was branding a beer company was a dream job and couldn't pass up a opportunity on doing some first hand 'research' at the Norwich beer festival.

The brief was very open and didnt really have to much to go on, they made it clear that they where open to new ideas but wanted it to be able to sit along side some of the best brands at the bar. One thing they did tell us was that the beer came from the name of the street the companies pub sits on, they also talked us through the beer brewing process. What makes the beer they produce unique is that it takes longer to brew compared to a average beer brand.

Looking further in to the history of Redwell street we found out it was believed to of had a red well in the middle of it. Running with that idea we took a quick trip to the nearest well, up the heath to Norwich castle we went to see if it would generate any further ideas.

we pondered more thoughts on the well and a few ideas around it and then moved swiftly on in another direction. We started to focus on the idea of waiting, targeting the very english act of queuing. straight away we realised the imagery around it was already much more striking than a well, people formed in queues waiting in a orderly fashion around the bottle label.

Developing this further after a few more crit sessions we started to think of other ways we could represent the idea of waiting in a simpler way, thats when we came up with the idea of bringing in the deli counter shape ticket, its a really unique shape also giving us good direction in terms of material and colours.

after more crafting and experimentation we thought it would be most appropriate and cost effective to print on the craft sugar paper stuff you get deli tickets on, allowing the company to save money on print costs. printing black on coloured card.

We later realised that the sugar paper material absorbed all the moisture off the cold bottles so had to run with a normal more resistant label material.   We presented the idea to the client for the second time and then later on that day found out that the brewers wanted to choose our route, even though the ideas from the rest of the teams from our course where also very strong. This called for some champagne celebration (because redwell hadnt finished brewing yet)
